BK's LESSON POLICY (updated Fall 2021)
LESSON PREPARATION:
The student and teacher will set weekly goals in order to help guide students toward achieving their longer term goals. Students are required to practice REGULARLY (i.e. DAILY) in order to achieve those goals. Multiple unprepared lessons can result in the student's removal from a lesson due to lack of preparation --- either temporarily or permanently.
PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT:
Parental support is crucial to the successful development of the young musician. In order to help assist parents with this task, lesson notes may periodically be sent home with what was covered in that week's lesson, goals for the next lesson, and any other concerns/topics needing addressed. (Note: Parents/guardians are welcome to observe lessons at any time so that they may understand the skills being learned.)
LESSON LENGTH:
Lessons will be either be twenty-two (22) or thirty (30) minutes, depending on your child's class period. Sixty (60) minute slots are also possible, if any additional slots remain after every child desiring lessons has been scheduled.
LESSON TUITION:
Marcus cluster student lessons: Lewisville ISD sets the lesson rate for in-school lessons at $25 for 30-minute lessons and $21 for 22-minute lessons.
Non-Marcus cluster students: $75/hr
PAYMENT:
Payments are due by the 1st of the month for the upcoming month's lessons. Invoices will go out about a week before the end of the prior month. You are welcome to submit payment however you'd like, so long as I do not incur a service charge That means that if you are paying via PayPal, please use the "Friends and Family" option and do NOT use the "Goods and Services" option. You would not want a 3% deduction from your paycheck --- Neither do I. (...and you will be sent another invoice covering said service charge that will have to be paid.)
Note: Scholarships may be available for LISD students in need of financial assistance. Please inquire with your band director.
LATE PAYMENTS:
Payments made after the first lesson of the month will be subject to $10/week late fee. However, if you get stuck and need a little more time to make payment.....AND COMMUNICATE WITH ME ABOUT IT....the late fee can be waived. The key is COMMUNICATION.
Lessons may also be temporarily suspended if payments are repeatedly late or the balance gets too high....and those suspended lessons will still be charged.
CANCELLATIONS:
Lessons canceled with at least twenty-four (24) hours advance notice will be rescheduled (schedule permitting). Students are responsible to pay for lessons canceled without twenty-four hours notice. No refund will be given for no-shows or tardiness. If you think you will be delayed, please call/text to let me know if you will be coming.
ALTERED SCHOOL SCHEDULES:
While I always try to find out any schedule alterations at each of the schools at which I teach, it is impossible to catch all of them. With that said, parents can be invaluably helpful with this one. if you see something in the schedule that might cause a conflict with any of your child's lessons, please contact me as soon as you notice the conflict so that I may try to find an alternate lesson time.
SUPPLIES:
Like any hobby/activity/organization, the correct tools are required in order to reach one's full potential. As needed, the teacher and student will identify those tools and it will be the responsibility of the student and their family to acquire them. For percussionists, that might involve specific mallets, sticks, method books, solos, instruments, etc.
Note: Being a percussionist can get quite expensive, so we will always be mindful of cost and be reasonable with equipment requests.
Now, let's get to the music!
